A few fuel saving tips for this winter

Driving in winter isn’t always the most enjoyable thing to do. Indeed, driving on a snowy road obviously affects traction and can be very nerve-racking for many people. One of the other inconveniences of driving in winter is that our fuel economy tends to go down. Driving with a cold engine in difficult road conditions will undoubtedly increase fuel consumption. There are a few ways however that you can minimize this.

Start by not letting your engine idle. You have probably heard this one before and it’s really just common sense. Leaving your car running in your driveway for long minutes to warm it up will have a terrible effect on your fuel consumption. You will actually get your vehicle warmer if you simply head out and drive. Those first few minutes maybe uncomfortable, but the benefits on your fuel economy as well as the time it takes for your vehicle to warm up overall are worth it.

Once you have brought your vehicle up to temperature, try and get as much done as possible with a warm engine. Once your engine is warmed up, it is almost as efficient in winter as it is in summer which means that if you do most of your commuting with a warm engine, you will undoubtedly improve fuel economy in winter.

Other tips include making sure that your vehicle is in good condition. You also want to check your winter tire pressure to not only make sure they perform up to your expectations but also that they get the best fuel economy possible.
